On January 25, 2019 @ 15:30 all four Berlin Fire Companies were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Route 9 northbound just after the Christian Lane on ramp. It was reported a motor vehicle had gone over the guard rail and rolled into a pond coming to rest on its roof. Upon arrival the vehicle was found on its roof in approximately 4 feet of water. It was determined the occupant was removed from the vehicle by good Samaritans prior to emergency services arriving on scene.
Route 9 north was shut down as crews began operating on scene. One crew began patient care. Upon arrival of Hunters Ambulance the patient was evaluated and transported to an area hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Fire crews secured the vehicle to prevent further movement while members entered the water wearing cold water rescue gear to search for any additional occupants. The search was negative. A heavy wrecker was called in from D&L Towing to help secure and remove the vehicle from the water. Connecticut State Police are investigating.
